Life is busy, especially leading up to this time of year. Whatever you’re into it’s a hustle. This past Saturday was no different for the team here at Triware … but we had a huge reality check. I’ll get to that in a minute.
On Saturday our team had the privilege of participating in the Home for Dinner Program with the Ronald McDonald House Charities NL. Every day families from all over Newfoundland and Labrador face the reality of a sick or injured child. For many of them this means they must travel to St. John’s, to receive specialized pediatric care and treatment at the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Ronald McDonald House helps sick or injured children stay close to their families and to the care and resources they need. The Home for Dinner Program offers families a home-cooked meal 4-5 times each week.
We planned the menu, purchased the ingredients and prepared the meal in the RMHC fully equipped kitchen. It was an absolutely fantastic experience! We loved every minute of it. The staff at RMHC were terrific. A big thank you to them as they answered our questions, told us about the House, and provided a tour as we worked to prepare a taco fiesta for 30+ people.

Now, the reality check mentioned earlier …
This is not a new lesson, and you’ve heard it all from people much smarter than me. Just take a minute and think about your day, your week, and your month. Think about how busy and hectic everything is. How we all get frustrated from time to time. Now imagine how busy, hectic, and frustrating it must be for a family with a sick child.
I went home that night and hugged my two healthy kids. I feel pretty lucky. And life since seems way less busy, hectic and frustrating.
